Notes Wrangler Documentation

Getting Started

Notes Wrangler keeps one set of notes per site in the browser Side Panel. Follow these steps to start:

  1. Click the toolbar icon. The Side Panel opens beside the page and stays open while you browse.
  2. Click New note in the panel toolbar. Give the note a title, then write. Titles are required so every note can be identified in lists and exports.
  3. Autosave runs while you type. The status area in the header shows Saving and Saved as your text lands in storage.

The panel always opens filtered to the domain of the active tab, so what you see belongs to the site you are looking at. Read why notes should stay with the site for the thinking behind that.

Views

The header names the current view and its note count:

View Behaviour
Site view The default. Shows notes filed under the active domain, plus any note pinned to show on every site.
All view The globe toggle lists every domain at once. Switch back when you want the site scope again.
Trash view The trash toggle lists deleted notes for 30 days, with restore, permanent delete and an end-to-end empty trash bar.

Switching to another site, or navigating within one, loads a fresh scene. The editor, the search and the view never carry across domains.

Organising Notes

Each row carries one set of controls:

  • Pin: pins the note to the top of every view. Pinning replaces the current pin, so there is always exactly one.
  • Lock: locks a finished note against accidental keystrokes. Locked notes stay readable everywhere but refuse edits until unlocked.
  • Show everywhere: promotes a site note to a global note that appears under every domain, or returns a global note to the site it belongs to.
  • Delete: moves the note to Trash with a confirmation.

The search box matches titles and note text, case-insensitively, in whichever view is open. Results show a snippet of the body around the first hit, so a match deep inside a long note is still visible. Search scopes to the current view: the site view searches that site, the All view searches everything and the Trash view searches what is deleted.

Connectors

The Connectors block in the panel pushes your notes straight into the app you pick from the dropdown. Connectors are paid, like sync, and are configured once in Settings:

  • Notion: create an internal integration at notion.so/my-integrations, copy its ntn_ token, share the target parent page with the connection, then paste the token and the parent page id into Settings. Pushing creates one page per note, with the domain and day stamped at the top.
  • Obsidian: install the Advanced URI plugin, keep Obsidian running, and save your vault name and an optional folder in Settings. Pushing writes each note into the vault through the plugin.
  • Joplin: enable the Web Clipper service in Joplin's options, copy its token, then save the token in Settings. Pushing creates each note through Joplin's local API while Joplin runs on the same machine.

Test buttons verify each credential before you push. The Markdown export guide covers the download route that works with anything else.

Sync Without Accounts

Local notes are free and unlimited and never leave the device. Sync, export, import and connectors are paid and yearly at 39 USD with manual renewal. Sync moves your notes across devices through one random key of the form ntwr_live_. There is no account, no password and no automatic charge. The key is the only credential, so store it somewhere safe: losing it loses synced notes. The full model, including second-device setup and key habits, is in how Notes Wrangler sync works.

Settings

Settings is where the panel's long-term configuration lives:

  • Sync key: reveal, copy and download the key, or enter the key from another device.
  • Paid features: access status, Upgrade, Sync now, Export as JSON, Export as Markdown and Import JSON.
  • Connectors: Notion, Obsidian and Joplin credentials with a test and a push button each.

Data Management

Export as Markdown downloads every live note as one file shaped for reading and for moving into other apps. Export as JSON downloads the full structured records, versions and timestamps included, which makes it the format for backups and tooling. Import JSON loads such a backup and merges it note by note, matched on identifier and recency, so a stale backup cannot overwrite newer edits. Trashed notes are excluded from both exports.

Trash and Recovery

Deleted notes wait in the Trash view for 30 days and can be restored in place at any point during that time. Restores of deleted workspaces are also possible per note with a permanent-delete confirmation, and the empty trash bar clears the whole trash in one confirmed action. A hourly purge removes notes whose 30 days have passed.

Privacy

Notes Wrangler stores note text locally in the browser. Local notes never leave the device. Synced notes are stored on project infrastructure and are transmitted over encrypted connections. Notion pushes are sent from your browser directly to Notion using your own integration token, and Joplin pushes stay on your machine. Note content is not sold and is not used for advertising. See the Privacy Policy for details.
